Guess Whose Back

Guess Whose Back

Back on the Road at Last

Getting my licence back after a year and a half away feels like getting a part of my life returned. I’ve wanted to drive since I was 13, passed at 17, and like most people, I took real pride in having my own set of wheels. When I moved to university, I sold my first car and figured I’d get another when I came home. I didn’t expect to be diagnosed with epilepsy, and I definitely didn’t expect to lose my licence twice because of it.

First car I got after being diagnosed was a vw scirocco. One of my realistic dream cars - meaning one I should realistically have been able to afford. But losing that was a big gut punch. I then had a long 2 year wait before driving again. I went for a vw polo, with the thought that if I can keep that for a year or so, then I should be safe enough to improve my ride. However, just over a year with the Polo, a very hot summer caused me to lose my license again and back to square one we go.

Now things have finally turned a corner. My licence is back, and I’ve treated myself to a 2022 Audi A4. It’s a lovely car, solid to drive, and it feels good to be back behind the wheel again. More than anything, it’s the independence that means the most. I can get where I need to be in my own time, under my own steam, and after so long without that, it feels like a major step forward in life.

Here’s to getting on with things, enjoying the drive, and moving ahead again.
